The Natural Sea Water (NSW) FGD invented by CEPT is a kind of green technology. It uses only seawater discharged from power plant to reduce SO2 emission with high efficiency. It does not require any chemical additives and fresh water consumption, not discharge by-product and not produce secondary pollution. Its cost is the lowest of all FGD technologies being applied in the world at present.
Because of CEPT’s effort, the first 300MW NSW-FGD project (Shenzhen Mawan power plant) and the first 600MW NSW-FGD project (Zhangzhou Houshi power plant) were operated in 1999. This is the new landmark for the industrial application of seawater FGD. It also indicates an epochal development for coal-fired electricity generation becoming to clean energy!
But some time ago, all the other foreign and Chinese companies considered that seawater FGD was unworkable. The great success of the two projects shows that it is CEPT that has promoted the advanced, original and tailored NSW-FGD technology. It is a good example that demonstrates our technology is very professional, mature and with long-term scientific perspective.
Up to now, the large seawater FGD project of CEPT has operated with electricity generation synchronously for more than 8 years; its total capability has already reached more than 6000MW.
